The sages of ancient India stressed the importance of location and direction in the treatise Vaastu Shastra. Specific mention was made about choosing a location very carefully and to avoid those places that had all the marks of being unfit or unsuitable for human habitation. Research in modern times confirms what Vaastu shastra propounds. New research has thrown light stress, specifically geopathic stress.
Geopathic originates from the Green word Geo meaning Earth and Pathos meaning disease. Studies have shown that there are locations on Earth that are harmful for humans, generate high levels of stress and result in illness and disease. Research throws light on geopathic stress zones being contributory causes for cancer, tuberculosis, meningitis, kidney disease, rheumatism, circulation problems, depression, insomnia, infertility, miscarriages, chronic fatigue, body pains and restlessness in human beings. People living in such geopathic stress zones do not respond to treatment and buildings in such zones fall “ill” and cause illnesses in the occupants. Even though a person may have followed the guidelines of Vaastu shastra, the malefic effects will still show and no matter what is done, these cannot be overcome. The forces of geopathic stress in that particular zone are too strong and overpower even Vaastu’s guidelines.
Considerable work has been done in the field of geopathic stress starting around 1920. Melser and Winner in Germany conducted tests on thousands to establish links between cancer and zones with geopathic stress. Geopathic stress arises due to the Earth’s magnetic lines of force, movement of tectonic plates and flow of underground stream as well as lava’s movements. Modern day geopathic stress is generated by electrical and electronic means, the most notable ones being microwave towers and high tension electric wires. According to Dr Manfred Curry there is a grid of electrically charged lines encompassing the globe and where the lines cause, geopathic stress arises, disturbing the balance in a human body. Dr Hartman of Germany propounded that lines of energy run from the north to the south and from the east to the west. Intersection points of these lines are dangerous to human life and well being. In addition there is the possibility of spirals of energy affecting the ambience of buildings negatively. It is believed that electromagnetic waves at these geopathic stress points can resonate with energy fields inside buildings and adversely impact human life. So no matter how carefully one has followed the principles of Vaastu in constructing buildings at such sites, no good will come of it. The Earth’s electromagnetic vibrations and ambience totally overshadow and override Vaastu’s guidelines.
Vaastu does have guidelines on choosing the location where you wish to construct a building. If the location does not match the guidelines, it is best to avoid it even if it is available at a low cost or is convenient in some other ways. It would be erroneous to think good Vaastu can take care of all the malefic influences of geopathic stress. Vaastu essentially gives guidelines on harmonizing the five elements and choosing a proper location too but if the location is not right, the building on the site will never promote peace, health and harmony.
