Colors add identity to a thing. Its sharpness and brightness speaks volumes about the space which has been done up using it. There are two categories of colors as we all know- the primary colors and the secondary colors. Every color has its distinctive characteristic and Vastu explains which color should be used for which area so as to reap maximum positive benefits for the occupants of the house. Every color emits a certain vibration which in turn affects how one feels within any given space. Hence, the choice of colors should be done properly only after understanding its characteristics properly.
Green- The color green has a very peaceful and resting quality. However, its combination creates a unique energizing quality which helps to bring about balance and harmony within the house. It heals and rejuvenates a room and should therefore be used for calming down people who are troubled or who need refreshment immediately.
Red- Red is a very powerful, strong and stimulating color which energizes and inspires action and movement in an individual. However, the color red needs to be used very carefully as it can also proves to be highly overpowering, exhausting and stressful for anxious people.
Pink- Pink is obtained from the color red but it is less demanding and very soothing. It is the color for love and can be easily used for couple bedrooms. Although pink is adapted from red, we cannot use red color for the bedroom as it would not be restful for the occupants. However, some shades of red can be used for the bedroom as it enhances sensuality.
Orange- This is a color which brings about happiness, joy and even encourages social gatherings within the house. Hence, this color is best suited for the dining area or the family room as this would stimulate both appetite and personal relations among the family members. Orange also enhances communication, positive feelings, cheerfulness and parties.
Yellow-This is a color which would initiate and inspire clear headedness, clarity of thought and intellectual skills along with inducing happy energy within the room. The logical left side of the brain is awakened by the use of yellow color; hence its usage should be done with great care.
Blue- Blue is considered to be a coolant. It is very calm, restful and spiritual and hence is best suited for the meditation room. It has a quiet meditative quality which even assists in reducing blood pressure. Its effect is so soothing that it puts one to sleep.
Purple- The use of this color guarantees comfort, protection, spirituality and calmness which inspire faith, intuition and trust. A light violet color for the room can help heal and calm the atmosphere to a great extent.
White- White is one color which can be used in combination with other accent colors for every room. It is a color which symbolizes purity, uplifts mood and even cleanses the environment. Ceilings of all rooms should be painted white as they reflect light and brighten up the room.
