1. We see a cobra creeping around Shiva's Neck, chest and arms. He is always surrounded by serpents. Am I am. These serpents are representations of rebirth and regenerations. The snake sheds off its skin and takes up the new skin. In the same way, our soul sheds the body and takes another form. The snake is the symbol of eminence, transformation and rebirth. It signifies renewal of life.

As the mortal starts on his transcendent journey, this serpent starts or uncoil and starts its upwards journey through swadhishtan chakra. When the mortal wins over his hunger and cravings, whether it is for pleasure of food or any other-worldly craving, the swadhishtan chakra is animated. The Manipuri chakra is, which connects you to the world. It is near the navel. Awakening of this chakra makes you more creative. This chakra connects the lower chakras to the higher chakras. The lower chakras were related to worldly consciousness. The higher chakras are related to cosmic consciousness. The anahanta chakra is related to the heart. Heart is the home fore love, creativity and intuitions. Awake this chakra to be more susceptible to love and intuitions. The next chakra is the vishuddhi chakra. Vishuddhi means to clean. Therefore, this chakra cleanses the soul and makes it more receptacle to the conscious mindfulness. The Ana chakra situated between the two eyebrows is coiled with intellectual energy. Lastly the crown chakra or the sahasrara chakra. This is the higher most chakra. It is not easy or awaken this chakra and very few have been successful to do it. Gautam Buddha was one of them, who had awakened his proem chakra. It is often seen that a cobra of five heads shades Buddha's form. This signifies that his inner serpent released from his crown chakra. Here, the serpent represents conscious awakening of self. Shiva’s consciousness is so strong that the serpents not only shade his head but also covers his whole body, implant he is beyond consciousness.
