Maa Siddhidatri is worshipped on the ninth and the last day of Navratri puja. She represents the ninth incarnation of Goddess Durga. She is known as Siddhidhatri because she offers every type of protection to her devotees. She is also known as Goddess Lakshmi, the giver of wealth, happiness and success. She is worshipped with Siddhi, Gandharva, Asura, Deva and Yaksha. It is believed that if Maa Siddhidatri is worshipped with a pure and revering herart, then one can achieve all the eight types of Siddhis viz. Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, Ishitwa, and Vashitva.
Maa Siddhidatri’s procession is a lion and she sits on a lotus flower. She is dressed in a red colored saree and has four hands. She holds a lotus in the lower left hand, a Shankha in the upper left hand, chakra in the upper right hand and a bludgeon in the lower right hand. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva attains half the body of Maa Shakti and is hence even called ‘Ardhanarishvara.’
The ninth day, which is also the last day of Navratri puja, holds special significance for the devotees. It marks special celebrations like Yagya, Durga Puja, Kanya Puja and Maha Puja to please the Goddess. Thereafter ‘Durga Visarjan’ is performed to conclude the proceedings of the puja. The idols of Maa Durga are then immersed in the holy waters of the river.
