Navaratri is considered to be one of the most auspicious festivals as per Hindu culture and is celebrated every year with great pomp and grandeur. It marks the worship of Goddess Durga in her nine forms for nine auspicious nights. That is what the word Navaratri literally stands for. The three main Goddesses viz Maa Durga, Maa Lakshmi and Maa Saraswati are revered with complete devotion and love so as to seek their blessings and protection from any unknown fear or threat that might befall on an individual during the upcoming year. The devotees ask for peace, prosperity and well being from the Goddess of power who has the supremacy over the creation, preservation and destruction of the entire universe. Since we are nearing that time of the year when Navratri preparations are in full swing, it is important to learn about the correct method and reason for performing the Navratri Puja with complete paraphernalia. Items required for the Navaratri Puja:

Navaratri Puja Vidhi To perform the Puja, one needs to get up early at sunrise, as this time is considered to be the best to perform the Navaratri puja. Thereafter, take a bath and wear laundered clothes. The ‘diya’ should be kept on the left side of the deity. An ‘Akhand jyot’ should be lighted for nine days. However, if you are lighting an ‘Akhand jyot’ make sure not to leave the house vacant. Someone should stay back at home at all times. The incense sticks should be lighted on the right side of the idol. The coconut and Kalash too should also be kept on the right hand side. Then, lay the mat and sit upright to do the puja with full devotion and concentration. Thereafter, light the ‘diya’, ring the bell and blow the shankh to mark the onset of the puja.
