Salvation of Demon Trinavarta by Lord Krishna

Salvation of Demon Trinavarta by Lord Krishna

- Lord Krishna is known to have performed various miracles in his childhood. The following incident is yet another example of one of his childhood adventures.

1. Once, Little Krishna was sitting on his mother Yashodha’s lap when a demon named Trnavarta came in the form of a tornado. All of a sudden, the little baby became extremely heavy, like a mountain, due to which Maa Yashoda could not hold him in his lap any more. A heavy air storm began to flow and blew off the tops of many huts. Yashoda’s view got filled by sand dust and her baby got missing in the rigmarole. Everyone began hunting for Bala Krishna everywhere.
As for Bala Krishna, he soared up to the sky along with the demon and perched his back on him. He became so heavy that the demon could not bear his weight any further. As the demon tried o smash his head on to the ground, small Krishna squeezed his throat. The demon fell on to the ground and lost his life. Baby Krishna then began to play on the dead body of the demon. The Vrajavanitas (some of the village women of Vraja) brought Sri Krishna back to Maa Yashoda safely. Immensely happy to get back her son in a safe, secure and sound state, Yashoda thanked the Gods, gave offerings and even donated many cows and lands. She then told her son Sri Krishna not to act mischievous and put him to bed comfortably in between silk cushions.

As for the demon, Trnavarta, his past story and character needs to be known to understand why he attacked Shri Krishna.

1. poking the latter with its beak. Sri Krishna then caught him and tore his beak apart. In this manner Bakasura got killed by Sri Krishna. The Devtaas dropped flowers on Paramatma. The Gopalas were filled with joy to see Sri Krishna safe and sound. They hugged him tightly and reported the entire incident to Maa Yashoda.

Let us know something about Bakasura now. Bakasura was the son of the demon Hayagriva and at that time his name was Utkala. Utkala was full of might and had once defeated Lord Indra and had even occupied his position for 100 years. Once, Utkala had gone to the shores of Sindhu Sagar (sea) near the ashram of Jajili maharshi. There he began fishing just for fun’s sake. On seeing this, the saint (maharshi) said that killing innocent creatures is a grave sin and should not be done at all. However, Utkala paid no heed to the saint’s words and continued with his fishing feat. The maharshi got extremely annoyed with Utkala and cursed him to get transformed into a crane with the features and behavior of a demon. He begged the maharshi for forgiveness who then took pity on him and said that he would attain freedom and salvation from his demon.
