* Vastu means dwelling for both humans and gods. It is based on various energies present around us in the atmosphere which need to be balanced well with the five elements of nature and the ten directions in order to enhance peace, success and prosperity. If Vastu house plans for interior of homes are followed stringently, it would be a warehouse for happiness or its inmates, or else it would only cause worries and tensions for them in every field of life.
1. Living room- Ideal positions for the living room are in the north or east sectors. Doors should be positioned on the east or west sides of the room. Chandeliers ought not to be in the geometrical centre but skewed slightly to the west. Rooms have Brahmasthans as well as do houses and preventing the centre of the room from being laden with weight is the logic behind this asymmetrical recommendation.
2. Dining room- The ideal location for the dining room is the west. The east and north are acceptable too. The kitchen and dining space should never be different floors. Carrying food up and down stairs is very inauspicious. However, the best direction when eating food is the east. The head of the family should sit facing this direction.
3. Kitchen- It is quite important to place the kitchen along with its range, oven, toaster, microwave and other electrical devices in the fire corner of the house that is the south east direction. Having a kitchen in the north is regarded as an inducement to become extravagant. The range should be located in the south east corner of the kitchen and other devices such as refrigerator should be as close to the southeast corner as possible. Do not put them in the south west. The south wall can be used for the pantry and the cupboard.
4. Pooja or Worship room- Most houses int he western world do not have a separate room for worship. However, this is a trend well worth changing. No matter what your religious practices, having a room of the house devoted to spiritual purposes can go far towards making a house feel special and can have amazingly beneficial effects on your family life. North-east, the direction of God, is the traditional corner for this room. Statues or idols should be placed on the east or west sides of the room.
5. Bedroom- Master Bedrooms should be placed in the southwest while children’s room should occupy the North West. East side bedrooms are rare and are usually guest bedrooms. Northeast and southeast are totally unsuitable locations for bedrooms.
6. Study room- The west side is best suited for study or meditation room. This allows one to face the east toward the open centre of the house while working. Bookshelves should be placed on the east or north sides but never in the northwest or southwest corners. Books in the North West corner are believed to be an inducement to theft while books in the South West corner tend to be neglected. Windows should be placed in the east, west or north. Toilets ought not to be attached to the study.
